Positionality Statement:
This class has taught me to explore my positionality and how it affects my writing. I identify as a straight, white, able-bodied, middle-class, female, and English is my first language. Although I can not relate to most of the authors we have read in this class, they taught me that each of us has our own positionality and we all come from different backgrounds. I have experienced sexism being a female and I am able to express this through my journals, poems, and stories. Authors Statement: I’m not going to sit here and write how this class was easy for me. I have never been much of a writer because of my learning disability, but I did learn how to express myself creatively as a female writer. My mind was opened throughout reading books from Audre Lorde, Lamar L. Wilson, Sj Sindu, and especially Billy-Ray Belcourt. These people’s stories taught me the underlying message of this course… “Reading as a Writer- When writing is not a luxury.” On the first day of class, we discussed the definition of luxury. This conversation we had was eye-opening and set the tone for the rest of the semester. |
